Current funding for conservation actions is estimated to be less than 20% of what is required to protect reefs into the future. Consequently, there is an urgent need to develop sustainable financing that supports conservation actions and the operability of scaled interventions. Presentations in this session will share insights from tourism, charities, corporations, environmental NGOs, and emerging industries for conservation aquaculture and marine operations, around supporting coral restoration, invasive species management, and control of coral predators. Topics in this session will also consider cost-benefit and cost-effectiveness research for conservation actions, biodiversity credits as an emerging solution to the current funding challenge, and insurance policies that can finance ecosystem restoration and protect coastal communities.
